About Melsomvik to Sandodden and Øra
Good round in Vestfjorden to Tønsberg that is great for beginners. Sheltered waters with small crossings.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 107 kilometers until you reach exit 39 for Fv 303 towards Stokke. Drive through Stokke and continue on Fv303 towards Melsomvik for another 2,3 kilometers. At the next roundabout, continue straight towards Solnes on Solnesveien. Your destination will be 550 meters ahead on your left.
From the harbor, the paddling route takes you by Sandbånn beach and out to the Trælsodden peninsula in the southeast. Once you round the peninsula, you follow the coastline north in a well-sheltered area. The shoreline has very few buildings and is pleasant to paddle next to.
One and a half kilometers north of Trælsodden, you will arrive at Brunstad's recreational area and a few kilometers further north, you will reach Rossnessodden, a well-organized recreational area with a nice beach. You will see nice farmland on the mainland all the way until you reach Sjuestokkskogen and Rakkevik. 250 meters south of the marina in Rakkevik lies Sandodden, with a nice beach and a grassy hill. This is a perfect place to take a break.
On the return trip, you paddle west and cross the open water to Nøtterøy and Munkholmen, a popular recreational area and swimming beach. Follow the shoreline south under bridges and past buildings.
When have paddled back to Rossnessodden, you will also arrive at a beach at Hella. When you reach Ørastranda Camping, cross back to Trælsodden in the west and paddle back along the shoreline to Melsomvik.
