From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 107 kilometers until you reach exit 39 for Fv 303 towards Stokke. Drive through Stokke and continue on Fv303 towards Melsomvik for another 2,3 kilometers. At the next roundabout, continue straight towards Solnes on Solnesveien. Your destination will be 550 meters ahead on your left.

Trail description

From the harbor, the paddling route takes you by Sandbånn beach and out to Trælsodden in the southeast. From there, cross about 700 meters of open water to Gåsøkalven island, which has good landing areas on the western shore. About 200 meters further south is the island Gåsø, where you find a recreational area and several nice places to enjoy a break on both the north and west sides of the island.

Further along the route, you paddle south to Ravnø, where there are beautiful cabins placed among the forest. Just south of Ravnø, there is a convenient beach between the boat docks. From here you cross west to the mainland and follow the shoreline south to Bogen, where there is another great place for a break.

The return takes you north along the shoreline and the west side of Ravnø. When you pass Maroniodden you are back in civilization with considerable amounts of small docks and a marina. On the western side of Gåsø, it becomes more rural again and after about three kilometers, you paddle past Vårnes, where there is a small beach next to a pier. Follow the coastline further north and you will pass the small boats at Solnes and see the grain silos. Be aware of large boats in this area.

Continue paddling north until you return back to the Melsomvik marina.

At Melsomvik you can find:

  • Public restrooms (open during the high season)
  • Fresh water
  • Parking
  • Grocery store located 1 kilometer north of the marina
