About Bratsø Loop
A paddle tour around Brøtsø is a great and exciting route in sheltered waters, in a typical archipelago landscape.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 96 kilometers until you reach exit 35-Gullikrysset for Rv308 toward Tønsberg/Nøtterøy/Tjøme. Follow Fv308 for 29.5 kilometers until turning left onto Havnaveien. Follow Havnaveien for a few hundred meters until you reach your destination.
From Havna Hotel, the route will head north on the western side of Røssesundet strait and across the small bay to Tangen. A short kilometer after passing Røssesundbrua bridge, you will come to the small center of Ormelet with piers and shops. Here you will find a public beach called the Regnbuen (“Rainbow”). This is a nice place to take a break before crossing Røssesundet strait over to Brøtsø island and continue paddling north along the coastline.
When you round the northern point of Brøtsø, you continue along the shoreline and head south. Here, you will paddle in beautiful scenery between the islets and shoreline. The private cabins are found along the water but it is possible to find a bay or a beach which can be a good place to take a break.
When you reach the southern edge of Brøtsø, paddle into the strait and under Øra-brua bridge which separates Brøtsø in the north and Hvasser island in the south. Continue paddling west across the strait to Havna Hotel.
Paddle the route in the opposite direction. When you round the northern tip of Brøtsø and turn south, you can cross to Tjøme island in the west and paddle into a small canal that separates Bukkholmen in the south and Engø in the north. Here is a little walking bridge you will paddle under. At low tide or high tide, it isn’t certain you can make it under the bridge, but it is worth trying. Take the trip further along the shoreline, into Holmenbukta bay and then continue south along the shoreline back to Havna Hotel.
Be aware of boat traffic while crossing the straits.
At Havna you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Fresh water
