Summiting Kaltberget, located at 952 meters above sea level, is a great hike for the entire family and has views over Kviknebygda.
At the top, you'll find a lookout tower, for flight observation, that was built immediately after WWII and used by the Armed Forces. The second floor of the tour was completely glass and was guarded at all times. Over the years the tower deteriorated but was completely restored in 2008.
From the Circle K gas station at Kvikne, drive on Road 3 towards Grøtliveien. After about 1.5 km, turn left onto Grøtliveien to Kamsteinen. There is a parking space on the right side at Kamsteinen.
Please note that Grøtliveien is a toll road, so bring cash.
The trail to Kaltberget is marked by Tynset Turlag. The trail begins in a mountain birch forest before the landscape becomes beautiful open mountain scenery.
The ski slopes are prepared by the top of the winter, so Kaltberget is a nice destination all year long.
