About Hui Loop

Paddle along this route through sheltered waters and a varied landscape, bordering Færder National Park. The trip is suitable for beginners but is also popular among more experienced paddlers. This is also a good starting point for longer routes in the area.

The adventure is part of Padleled Vestfold and the entry point for the adventure is Langvika.

Getting there

From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 96 kilometers until you reach exit 35-Gullikrysset for Rv308 toward Tønsberg/Nøtterøy/Tjøme. Follow Fv308 for 25 kilometers through Tønsberg and Nøtterøy, over to Tjøme island until turning right onto Langvikveien. Continue on Langvikveien for another 600 meters until you reach your destination.

Trail description

The route begins with a short crossing from Langvika over to Hui island. Be aware of boat traffic in this area during the busy summer season. The route then heads south along the island’s shoreline, offering a sheltered and exciting tour among the many islets. When rounding the southern tip of the island, paddle through the strait between Bukkholmen island, located due south, and Hui. Here it can be very shallow. It is recommended to take a break at one of the beaches on the north side of Lindholmen, the island just west of Bukkholmen. On Lindholmen, you also will find great places to pitch a tent but do not count on having the island all to yourself, this is a very popular spot when the weather is nice.

If you wish, it is also recommended to go for a trip through Geitungholmen islands, or the Eneboer as it is also called. Continue paddling north along the western coast of Hui. Remember to stay close to the shoreline to avoid rough water and boat traffic. Round the northern point of Hui island and paddle through the strait separating Hui and Granø island in the northeast. Cross the strait and return to your start at Langvika.

Alternative Route
If you are looking for a longer trip, we recommend paddling around Vakersholmen island, found off the northeastern coast of Hui. Paddle further to Svelvikstranda beach and camping area before paddling south down the shoreline to Langvika. This is will add an additional 30 minutes onto the route.
