About Torødstranda to Grimestadbukta
A nice day trip to Grimestadbukta bay. If you have the time, it is also recommended using the whole day to explore the islets in Færder National Park.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 96 kilometers until you reach exit 35-Gullikrysset for Rv308 toward Tønsberg/Nøtterøy/Tjøme. Follow Fv308 for 7 kilometers through Tønsberg. Turn left onto Smidsrødveien/Fv309 and drive for 8.5 kilometers until you turn right onto Torødveien. After 1 kilometer, turn left onto Nestvikveien and very shortly after, turn left onto Strandåsveien where you will find your destination.
From Torødstranda, cross directly over to Søndre Årøy island. The route follows the coastline south until you reach the southern tip of the island. From here, paddle south to the point, Mågerøtangen, on the island, Mågerø. The area between Søndre Årøy and Mågerø is called Mågerøflaket and can be a bit rough at times with a lot of boat traffic, so be cautious during your crossing.
Continue south along the eastern shoreline until you pass Kongehytta where you head west into Grimestad Bay. We recommend you paddle around the entire bay, and explore the small islets. Stop at either Ødegården beach on the north side of the bay or at Hønsø on the south side of the bay. Both are great places to take a break and stretch your legs. After spending some time in the bay, paddle back to the tip of Burø island, cross over to Mågerø island in the north, and follow the same route back to Torødstranda.
At Torødstranda you can find:
- Public restrooms
- Fresh water
