About Sandsletta to Varnestangen
A safe paddling route down the shoreline from Sandsletta to Varnestangen. A great kayaking adventure for beginners.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 50 kilometers until you reach exit 28-Bergsenga-krysset for Fv313 toward Sande N. Follow Fv313 south for 20 kilometers until you reach Fv315 and Holmestrand. Drive through Holmestrand and back onto Fv313 for another 5 kilometers until you reach the road, Sandsveien, directing you to “Sand Camping”. Follow the road for a few hundred meters following signs to Sand Camping and where you will find parking.
From Sandletta, the route heads south following the shoreline where you will soon reach Frebergsvik bay. After the bay, you will paddle past the little peninsula, Catten, before reaching your destination, Varnestangen.
At Varnestangen, you will find a nice picnic area which is only accessible by foot, bike, or boat. If you are interested in a small hike, there is a hill, Slettefjell (115 meters above sea level) which provides great views over the Oslo fjord and Sandbukta bay. Enjoy the late afternoon and evening sun at Varnestangen before returning to Sandletta along the same route.
At Sandletta you can find:
- Toilet, fresh water, shower facilities
