About Nature Experience Chair 'Ant'

The cliff trail between Landåsen Rehabilitation Centre and the settlement in Landåsen meanders through mixed woodland before reaching a clearing where the nature experience chair ‘Ant’ awaits. This nature experience chair was created by Simon James Eide.

We wish to invite people to come and visit the diverse and species-rich nature that exists along Land’s and Etnedal’s watercourses with our exhibition ‘Nature Experience Chairs in the Dokka Delta Ecosystem’. The nature experience chairs can be found in diverse ‘nature spaces’ from Synnfjell in the north to Randsfjorden in the south. Art installations can act as trip destinations to encourage people to spend more time outdoors and develop a different perspective of nature. The diverse nature spaces tell a story of the landscape through the seasons and the relationships that exist between people and nature. We welcome the rain and the wind, the smell of mires and blossom, bubbling becks and ephemeral views, ancient creatures and the flapping of wings.

Art in nature can be used to encourage people away from vulnerable conservation areas to designated ‘nature spaces’, offering the same experience without damaging the balance of nature.

Take a walk to the artwork, enjoy the nature that surrounds you!

There are 13 different nature experience chairs placed in different environments in Etnedal, Nordre Land and Søndre Land:

Getting there

There are two ways of reaching Landåsen from fv33 between Dokka and Gjøvik. After following fv33 from Dokka towards Gjøvik for 11km take the exit to the right towards Landåsveien, follow this road for 7.3km before taking the exit to the right down towards Lanåsen. The rehabilitation centre here makes a great starting point for a hike.

Alternatively, you can drive from Gjøvik. After 36km on fv33 from Gjøvik towards Dokka take the left exit towards Borgenveien. Follow this road for 1.6km before turning left at the junction onto Sevalveien/Landåsveien. Follow this road for 6km before turning right towards Landåsen Rehabilitation Centre, which is a great place to start your hike.

Trail description

The hike starts at the carpark of Landåsen Rehabilitation Centre. You can find the Bergstien trail here and there are signposts to the nature experience chair ‘Ant’. The route is 500 metres both ways. You can continue on the Bergstien trail to Landåsvegen for a 2km hike.
