About Holmestrand to Sandsletta
This is an easy and fun kayak route along the shoreline to the recreational area at Sandsletta and is a perfect fit for beginners.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 50 kilometers until you reach exit 28-Bergsenga-krysset for Rv313 toward Sande N. Follow Rv313 south for 20 kilometers until you reach Holmestrand. There are two public parking lots, which require a fee, near the harbor.
From the harbor at Holmestrand, the route takes you south along the shoreline. Be aware of ferry and leisure boat traffic in the area.
South of the city center, you pass Hagemann Park, a beautiful recreational area, before continuing along the shoreline towards Mulvika bay. Along the route, you will be among some larger boats, so be aware of your surroundings.
When you arrive at the shallow Mulvika bay, the course turns northeast to round the small peninsula, Mulodden. On the very northern point of Mulodden you will pass a well-known lighthouse. From the lighthouse, you will have great views of the sandy bay which you just paddled through and the island, Langøya, in the northwest. If you are interested, this is a great place to go fishing.
Between Mulodden and Sandsletta in the south, it will be difficult to find ideal places to land your kayak but there are some small areas where you can get out to stretch your legs. Continue south along the coastline and you will start to see more rural surroundings. After passing the small boats in Snekkestad and Sand Camping, you arrive at Sandsletta. Here is a great place to land and take a break before returning to Holmestrand along the same route.
At Holmestrand Sentrum you can find:
- Grocery stores
- Public restrooms
