About Batteriøya to Bergeråsen
Enjoy the beautiful views of fruit orchards and farmland while kayaking south from Svelvik to Ulvika along the western coast of Drammensfjorden. This is a great paddling route for beginners.
From Oslo, follow E18 east towards Kristiansand for nearly 47 kilometers until you reach exit 27: “Eikkrysset toward Åskollen/Skoger”. Follow Fv319 for 19 kilometers until reaching Svelvik. Turn left onto Storegaten and an immediate right onto Skånegaten. Paid parking is available directly ahead.
Be aware of the boat traffic in this area during the summer season. If you prefer not paddling among many boats, try this route in the morning or in the evening when there is less traffic.
From the marina next to Batteriøya island, paddle south along the coastline to the peaceful and somewhat secluded recreational area at Ulvika. At the beginning of the route, you will pass a locally known beach, Truslestranda, and a camping area, Homansberget Camping. Further along, the coast is characterized by shallower areas, which can provide views of wildlife and especially the local birds. After rounding Krokåsen point, you will reach the popular seaside beach, Krok, where there is a jetty and diving board.
The final stop is Ulvika in Berger, a small private bay with a sloped grassy area and natural beach. The area is suitable for short breaks, but it is also possible to find a place to pitch a tent and stay the night, although it may not be completely flat.
Follow the same route to return back to Batteriøya.
At Batteriøya you can find:
