About Bispevatnet Lake
The blue-green Bispevatnet lake sits calmly under the shadow of Bispen mountain, constantly replenished with icy-cold water from a small waterfall.
The hike to Bispevatnet is quite quick but very rewarding. Just a short distance from the crowds at the Trollstigen Viewpoint below, it feels as though you’re being let in on a secret piece of Norwegian nature.
Make sure to fill your bottle with the cold, fresh water from the lake.
The marked trailhead is about 750 meters south of the car park by Trollstigen viewpoint. There are several pockets by the roadside to park in.
The trail is a gentle uphill route over rocks and low vegetation with views back towards the Alnes lake and valley.
From the trailhead at the side of the road, follow the clear path that heads up towards Bispen mountain which looms above.
At the lake, head over the bridge and venture out around the northern shore to see the water change color. You’ll pass by some small areas with year-round snow cover.
There is another marked trail that starts across the road from the car park by Trollstigen viewpoint. It’s also a good trail, but steeper.
- Bispen is one of the most popular BASE jumping take-off points in the area
