For a challenging day hike, tackle this loop trail by Jondal. The trail leads high up above the fjord to Vikanuten mountain before passing through the summer mountain farm, Fjellstølen.
Only hike this trail in good weather. If the weather is poor, consider a return hike to Fjellstølen instead (the last part of the full route).
The trailhead is in Sætveit, about 1 kilometer west of Jondal off road 107. You can walk directly from Jondal.
The trail has a tough introduction, heading uphill through spruce forest. The ascent is 1,000 meters as you head up toward Vikanuten with no flat sections.
Once you reach Vikanuten take plenty of time to soak up the views before continuing.
Continue along the marked trail towards the summer mountain farm, Fjellstølen. The landscape on this part of the trail is open and mountainous, running past some small takes as you drop 400 meters in elevation.
Take another break before the final descent back down to Sætveit.
- If you have a car there is free parking for up to 6 cars at the starting point in Sætveit.
