On the west side of the creek Leineån goes an old path,"vinterveien ", up to Sandal. The mountain farm roas went on the eastern side of Leineån, but "vinterveien" was also used a good deal, and it was down the steep hills here that they would take the sleighs with hay that were taken from the barns on the mountain farms.
Park at the mill houses, go over the bridge and about 200 m until the sign "Sandalen" shows you where to take off. Follow the tractor road up about 50m to the gate and labeling to your right.
The trail is quite steep at first, but still nice to walk. Eventually it goes parallel to the stream flowing far below you. The bottom part of the trail goes through old pine forest, but soon you're inside stocky aspen. This is good deer terrain. Otherwise, there are a lot of different kinds of bird here, both woodpeckers, owls, thrushes, tits and singers. After a good half hour of walking it flattens out and you're up in Sandalen, and the trail winds through easy terrain under the precipitous Skutshorn. The path goes all the way to the farms at Sandal , but it is now cleared up until Tvørrberget, where we go on the footbridge over Leineåne and enter the prepared mountain farm road (dirt road), a few meters before a gate. From the mountain farm road you can either proceed 2.4 kilometers inland to farms on Sandal, or to get a nice round trip, follow the road 4.1 kilometers down to the county road. There is also a nice walking trail with great views. Follow the fylkesvei westfor 600 m from the car by the mill houses in Leineån.
