Trip to the memorial where the big bear Rugg was shot.
"Now the bullet hit the right spot, in the midst of the breast. He marks it first as a lightning stab; but there is something that hugs the lungs and prevents them from taking air. The clamp is stifling, unbearable. Sunshine around him becomes dusk, becomes night ...". From the book of Mukkjel Fønhus: «Der villmaka suser».
The big bear Rugg was shot in Storbekkseilen on May 13, 1908. The reason for the large-scale hunt for the bear was the lethal damage a bear-inflicted shepherd boy Johan Sagadalen. Mikkjel Fønhus novel came out in 1919.
Exit E16 at village Nes in the northern end of Sperillen. Drive further on county road 243 towards Hedalen. After about 15 km turn left towards Vassfaret and follow Vassfarvegen for about 7 km to Storbekk. Possible to park some cars near the start of the trip.
The trail to the memorial is marked. The trail starts on gravel road on the eastern side of Storbekk. The rise is gentle at the beginning og the trip, but the last part to the mountains are steep.
