- Duration: 3–4 hours
Ulriken is the highest of the 7 mountains surrounding the city of Bergen. A cable car also goes to the top, where you will have a full 360-degree view, with no other mountains obstructing the view. Here, you will also understand why locals use these 7 mountains as their adventure destination as much as possible, especially when the sun is shining.
The hike can be done year around. If it is snowy weather, go later in the day so that you have tracks to follow. There are some steep areas that require you scramble over some large rocks, but it is not too challenging! Ulriken is exposed above the tree-line at 643 meters over sea level, so it can become cold and windy. You should wear a windproof and waterproof jacket that can keep you warm and dry. The weather changes quickly on the coast, so check the weather forecast before you go.
Park at Johan Blytts vei (to the right of Bergen Hostel Montana) where the track starts. Parking is free, but be early, as the parking lot quickly fills up, especially on the weekends.

There are many trail options for reaching the top of Ulriken. You can start from either the base of the Ulriken Cable Car or Bergen Hostel Montana. We suggest starting your hike at the parking lot Bergen Hostel Montana. Follow the gravel road over the hill until it dead ends where you will have two trail options. We suggest taking the path behind the bench and to the left because it is a bit more challenging. The other and more popular path is directly behind the bench. Despite the challenge difference, the paths are about the same length. You will see views of the city and fjord on almost the entire trip if you follow the recommended trail.
