About Solvorn

Solvorn is a small, picturesque village wedged between mountains along the fjord. Across the fjord, just a short ferry ride away, is Urnes Stave Church, Norway’s oldest. A visit to both locations is a relaxing day trip featuring Norwegian history and culture, delicious local produce, and of course beautiful fjord scenery.

Solvorn is a lovely place to while away a few hours, whether you’re relaxing along the waterfront or wandering around exploring. The beautiful village is home to Norway’s oldest hotel, Walaker Hotel. Further up the hill, Eplet makes and sells juices, jams, and other products made from local fruit. There are also some local walking trails featured at the ferry dock.

Getting there

Direct buses allowing for a day trip only operate from Monday to Friday. However, there are two buses everyday that stop at Galden, on the hill above Solvorn. From Galden, it’s an easy 3 kilometer walk downhill to Solvorn.

To return to Sogndal, there is a direct bus from Solvorn ferry dock everyday at 18:15. The journey takes 20 minutes and costs 40 NOK.

Monday to Friday

The bus to Hafslo, departing from Sogndal at 11:40, travels to Solvorn if requested. The journey takes 20 minutes and costs 40 NOK.

To return to Sogndal, there is a bus from Solvorn at 13:50 which stops at Galden. From Galden, you can catch a connecting bus to Sogndal at 14:00.

Trail description

If you take the bus to Galden, carefully cross the road and look for the gravel path next to the road down to Solvorn. Follow this path downhill for about 10 minutes until it reaches a local road. From there it’s just a matter of following the road downhill into the village and to the ferry dock.

There is a café and small supermarket near the ferry dock in Solvorn.
