Trekking to the top of Grønsennknipa Mountain is a classic hike in the Valdres region. Grønsennknipa is an easily accessible peak giving you 360-degree views of the mountain and summer farm landscape of Nord-Aurdal, Vestre Slidre and Vang, as well as far-away vistas of Jotunheimen National Park.
The hike has no steep sections and is perfect for a family outing.
You can either drive via Vaset or Trollhovd. Vaset is the recommended route as it's one of the most scenic drives in Valdres.
From Fagernes, take Road E16 in the direction of Røn. Exit by the Ulnes Church onto Road 261 and follow the signs towards Panoramavegen and Vaset (toll road).
Continue on the same road in the direction of Nøsen and turn right by the containers, a few hundred meters before you reach Nøsen Yoga Retreat Center. Continue for another 4 kilometers until you reach a crossroads at Buaråne. Turn right towards Jaslangvegen (another toll road) and continue towards Grønsennhøgda.
Park by the picnic area on the left-hand side of the road.
From Fagernes, take Road E16 in the direction of Røn. Exit Road E16 at Røn by driving over the Fosheim Bridge and turning right onto Vestsidevegen.
Drive some 1.5 kilometers, then turn left towards Trollhovd. Follow the graveled toll road, Haugrudveien. The name changes to Jaslangveien after some 11 kilometers. At Nørdre Trollhovd, keep driving straight ahead. Continue until you reach the parking area at Grønsennhøgda, which is located on the right-hand side of the road when coming from this direction.
The trailhead is signposted and located on the opposite side of the road from the parking. The trail itself is unmarked, however, it’s easy to spot and follow as it gradually ascends to the top. Enjoy the increasingly expansive views along the way.
Descend along the same trail.
