About Elgparadiset Smådalen
Moose used to be in Vang in previous times, something the pitfalls for moose from Høre, Ryfoss and Vang main parish show. The species had since been gone for a long time before the first moose in newer times was shot in Høre in 1956. The moose becamee more common in Vang and for the period 2006-2013 on average 54 moose were shot each year in the municipality.
The biggest mooses in Vang can often be found in Smådalen and if you want to see moose relatively close an expedition out on the large marshlands farthest south in the valley are something to be recommend. Here you can see moose up under the treeline.
Other places in Vang moose is common in areas around Begna, south in the municipality up to the willow belt. Some can exceptionally be found high in the mountains in the summer. In the winter many move down to the village, because there is better food and less snow than further up the mountains.
