About Skålgropfelt Tyinkrysset

The biggest locality of cupmarks in Valdres is located at Oppdalstølen at Tyinkrysset in Vang with 12 fields. According to Gro O. Kyvik we find most cupmarks on loose blocks and earth-fixed stones. We can compare cupmarks in Valdres with those in Indre Sogn both in terms of design and distribution. The cupmarks are often located in areas with good views of the surrounding landscape, as here by Opdalstølen. Cupmarks in summer farm areas are often in historic pasture farms, while cupmarks in the valley often are placed at burial grounds from the Iron Age without the basis for saying that they are made in the same period. But, for some reason, they are subject to the same places. The vast majority of cupmarks in Valdres are round in shape. Although cupmarks are found throughout the country, Valdres and Sogn are special because the cupmarks mainly are found in summer farm areas. Getting there: Drive E16 to Tyinkrysset, where you turn off and running rv 53 towards Årdal in approximately 700 m. Park here right off the road. You go from here past the big brick house and continue on the gravel road cottage across the hillside for about 450 m until skålgrop field.
