About Litjhelvet

Ishoel is a climbing park concept first created in Oppdal, and is quite popular. The area is easily accessible and the rocks dry quickly leaving good conditions. The season usually starts during Easter and lasts until the ice appears in October. Most sections are in the river gorge, and have good places to stand and belay. Except for Øvre-feltet (the upper section) the climbing is on river-polished stone, with good posts and holes. The routes vary from 6-16 metres, and with few exceptions all the routes are bolted. Litjhelvet is pretty much dry all year round. The wall has many relatively easy routes, and it is very easy to hang the rope. The belaying platforms from route 1-12 are good. Routes 13-15 are somewhat riskier. It is possible to walk unsecured from route 12 to 13, but it is advantageous to be secured. You must also anchor yourself when you climb these routes. The belaying platforms are bolted. The wall is from 6-10 metres high and gives a nice and long-lasting climb, but also shows signs of too many bolts, as the routes sometimes intertwine with each other. The descent down to the belaying areas is easy, which can be done unsecured. Getting there: From Oppdal Centre you’ll follow Riksvei 70 about 20 km toward Sunndal. Exit left when you see the signs to Vikaseter and Dindalshytta. Follow the road down the valley until you reach the river. Park next to the bridge. The road that goes in and is parallel with the river is private and only for walking. After about 300 metres you’ll reach a small parking spot on the right side. This is private and should not be used. Go straight down toward the river (about 50 metres). You’re now standing at the top of the climbing area. Climb down the ramp between route 3 and 4. Tips: It is a good idea to bring bug spray!
