If you want to see and experience a wonderful, small, and special stone house, which was built in medieval times, you should travel to Granavollen. The Stone House, which is located at the old vicarage in Gran is unique of its kind in the countryside in Norway (the only non-ecclesiastical building of stone from medieval times located in rural Norway). In addition to the fact that the house is very special in itself, you can experience great events, like interesting lectures and small concerts.
The house could fit as the residence of a senior cleric in the Catholic times. As priests, who were all unmarried men, then, would only need a fitting chamber for personal use. Necessary shelter for people and livestock was distributed among the many wooden houses that otherwise existed at the vicarage.
Getting there: Take off Route 4 in Gran towards Granavollen / Søsterkirkene and follow Fv 33 until you get to Sanner Hotel. Drive past Søsterkirkene and down Pilgutua to Steinhuset.
